How Welcomed Are People With Special Needs in Your Church?
If someone showed up in a wheelchair would they feel welcomed? Would it be easy for them to enter? Is there a special area for them or must they sit in the back or hang out in the isle?
If someone showed up who was blind or visually impaired, would they feel welcomed? Do the Church have Bibles written in Braille or large print available? Are the isles or entrance clear of steps or clutter? Are there Church members there willing to assist?
If someone showed up who was deaf or hearing impaired, would they feel welcomed? Is there an sign language interpretor or is there special seating up front in clear view of the speakers and choir, so that they could read lips if they wanted? Is there a sign language interpretor for Bible study?
If a person showed up who had an obvious Mental Illness, would they feel welcomed? If the person showed up in clothes that didn't match and behaved in a way that most would consider "odd" would Church members treat them the same as everyone else or would they stare and talk amongst each other?
If a person with a developmental disability showed up at Bible study, would they feel welcomed? Would those attending the Bible study be patient if the person didn't catch on too quick?
If a parent showed up with their severely mentally retarded adult child, would they feel welcomed? If the adult child behaved inappropriately at a point during the sermon, would everyone be understanding or would they stare and whisper to each other?
Welcoming a person means more than shaking a hand or giving a hug and saying "I'm glad you came."
Welcoming a person means making the person FEEL as if there IS A PLACE FOR THEM.

My Walk in Life is a book about my life. I feel that all church members have the right to know about their Minister if they are curious. I have nothing to hide. I am only human and we all as human have made mistakes or will make mistakes in life. The most important part about when you make a mistake is to learn from it. I also hope that people can learn or get some kind of motovation or empowerment from it and not feel so bad about their life and the things that they are going through.
